The first spin

Sunday 21st of June. Important that nothing falls off the bikes (mine is a bit of an old farm gate, Statler's it a bit more fancy - but it has a back carrier, so that cancels out the fancy:-)).
We met up at 8:00 (on a Sunday - felt the way I imagine golfers feel when they get up for an early tee time. Smug), stuck the bikes on the bike rack and headed off to Sallins in County Kildare. Nobody around. I am not used to being up this early on a Sunday. Feels good.
Easy to get onto the towpath heading back in the direction of Hazelhatch (near were we live). Just had to lift the bikes over a metal stile. Seemed like the type of gate that was designed to keep bikes out, but whatever. That was the last difficulty we had. The towpaths are in great nick at this time of year. Not too muddy. The canal area was quiet and we saw a beautiful heron a couple of times.
Arrived in Hazelhatch after a little over an hour of leisurely cycling. No pictures this time, but we will get it together for the next spin.

What's this blog about

My friend Statler and I decided that we would like to cycle the banks of the Grand Canal. We're going to start from Celbridge in County Kildare where we both live and do it in chunks. Nothing too strenuous, just a bit of fresh air. We expect to do somewhere between one and two hours at a time and use cars to shuttle us from end point to end point. Not a lot of loops in tow path cycling.
